It is here where incredible rituals take place, such as "Pasola" where hundreds of horsemen fling spears at each other in of uninhabited white- sand beaches fringed with thousand of coconut palms, volcanoes, waterfalls, deserted tropical islands and the friendliest people in the worlds which are all judged as the best. Sumba textiles are distinguished by their complexity combining ikat and supplemental decoration like shells and beads and beauty of their human, animal and supernatural motifs. Sumbanese women are prolitic weavers, and produce their valued textiles not just for local use but also for an export market that has existed since at least the early part of this century Day1. DENPASAR-WAINGAPU Mornig flight to waingapu in Sumba Island. On arrival direct transfer to your hotel. Afternoon visit Rende traditional village, Kawangu and Prailiu ikats weaving village. Diner and overnight at Merling Hotel
Day2. WAINGAPU-WAIKABUBAK After breakfast drive to Waikabubak in West Sumba with stops at Anakalang to see the royal tombs. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. On arrival in waikabubak direct check in at your hotel. Afternoon visit Tarung, Waitabar and Wanokaka traditional villages. Dinner and overnight at Manandang Hotel
Day3. WAIKABUBAK After breakfast our guide will take you for a fullday tour to Lamboya to see the site of Pasola and onto Kodi to see the huge tombs at Pronobororo and Ratenogoro villages. Lunch will serve at a local restaurant. Afternoon return to Waikabubak. Dinner and overnigt at Manandang Hotel.
Day4. WAIKABUBAK-DENPASAR After breakfast to transfer to Tambolaka airport for your flight to Bali.
Price Includes: Transfer and tours as per itinerary, overnight stay at hotels stated in the program, Full board meals, entrance fee, porters and donations, coffee/tea and unlimited water, English/German speaking guide.
Hotels: We chose the best hotel in each town, but the facilities are very basic and the cleanliness will always be the question mark. Be ready.
What to bring: Dress is casual. Clothing should be light, preferably cotton with at least one long sleeved shirt and pants. Bathing suit, thongs or sandals and sneakers or walking boots, lots of films, camera, replacement batteries, and spares. Women please note Indonesia is a mostly Muslim country and custom dictates modesty. Please be well covered on shore excursion. Brings one light sweater or jacket as it can get cool in the highlands. Also bring sun-screen, insect repellent, sunglasses, sunhat, swimmers. You may like to bring some snacks and a stock of imported Chocolate as it is always popular. please advise beforehand if you have any special dietary requirement. Beer is available at local rates. Bring also your passport, visa, airline tickets, local currency and or US$ in small denomination. |
